The weekend edition of ABC News' "Good Morning America" premiered Saturday, September 4, 2004, and airs live Saturday and Sunday mornings (check local listings) on the ABC Television Network. Since its launch, the weekend edition of "GMA" has covered a variety of breaking news stories, including the terrorist attacks in London's underground system, the hanging of Saddam Hussein and the death of Pope John Paul II. The program is anchored by Bill Weir and Kate Snow. Ron Claiborne is the news anchor and Marysol Castro contributes to the broadcast as weather and feature correspondent.
The weekend edition of "Good Morning America" brings viewers up-to-the-minute breaking news and weather, as well as topical features, all from the familiar set of the weekday program, located at the crossroads of the world - Times Square. The program features an appealing combination of news and information, headline-making interviews and probing discussion of a wide array of topical issues in the areas of politics, entertainment, consumer information, cutting-edge technology and the latest health and medical advances.
In addition to updates on hot new trends, on Saturdays "Good Morning America" gives viewers a weekly dose of fun and entertaining stories from around the world in a series by Bill Weir entitled "The News You Missed." Saturdays also feature the popular "3 Words" series, in which viewers from around the country submit their life stories in a unique and visual way. On Sundays the broadcast airs the signature show-ender "Weekend Window to...," each week spotlighting a different community in America.
"Good Morning America" weekend edition continues to surge in the ratings: The program has exceeded expectations in the five years it has been on the air, and it recently posted its strongest May sweep since its debut.
In addition to their anchor duties for the weekend edition of "Good Morning America," Bill Weir and Kate Snow contribute to the weekday edition and to various other ABC News programs. Ron Claiborne anchors the weekend newscasts for "GMA" and Marysol Castro reports widely on everything from the latest in lifestyle trends to breaking news and entertainment.
