Laura Marquez joined ABC News from ABC Owned and Operated station KGO-TV in San Francisco, CA. She is based in the ABC News Washington bureau.

Since joining KGO in 1989, Ms. Marquez has served as anchor and reporter, covering breaking news, investigative series and high-profile political stories such as the California recall. As KGOÕs main political reporter for the past five years, Ms. Marquez has interviewed newsmakers like Governor Schwarzenegger, as well as traveled to Washington, DC to cover impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton and the inauguration and State of the Union of President George Bush. Other big stories at KGO include coverage of the OJ Simpson trial and the 1991 Oakland Hills fires.

Ms. Marquez was nominated for an Emmy for her reporting on the Loma Prieta Earthquake. She was a member of the KGO team that won a Peabody Award for earthquake coverage. Ms. Marquez was also nominated for an Emmy for her ten-part investigative series on business practices at the College of Mortuary Science, which led to an investigation by the San Francisco District Attorney. Most recently she received the American Women in Radio and Television award for Best On-Air Reporter for 2003.

Prior to her work at KGO, Ms. Marquez was an anchor and reporter at WAVY-TV in Norfolk and WTVC-TV in Chattanooga. She began her television career at CNN, where she was a writer and producer based in Atlanta.

Ms. Marquez is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles.
