John Berman has been at ABC News since 1995, and a correspondent based in New York since 2001. He is a regular contributor to all of ABC's broadcasts, including "World News," "Good Morning America" and "Nightline."

Mr. Berman has covered stories ranging from the battles in Baghdad to barehanded catfishing. He has traveled to Iraq several times since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, when he was embedded with the Marines. He led coverage of dramatic events there, including the suicide bomb attack on the United Nations headquarters, the brutal mutilation of American contractors in Fallujah and the Shi'ite uprising of Moqtada al Sadr. He also covered the Israeli/Palestinian conflict from Jerusalem, the Indian Ocean tsunami from Banda Aceh, Indonesia, as well as the 2004 presidential campaign of General Wesley Clark and the steroids scandal in American sports. He was ABC's lead reporter for the space shuttle's return to flight in August 2005 and for the New York City transit strike.

In 1999 and 2000, Mr. Berman worked as an off-air reporter for ABC News covering the presidential campaign of George W. Bush. He logged more hours with then-candidate Bush than nearly any other reporter, following Bush to 45 states, from his early fundraisers through his first months in the White House.

From 1997-1999 Mr. Berman was the head writer for "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings." He traveled with Mr. Jennings to the Columbine school shooting in Colorado and to Cuba for the Pope's historic visit. He also worked with Mr. Jennings throughout the impeachment hearings of President Clinton.

Mr. Berman was part of the of the "World News Tonight" team recognized with a 2004 Edward R. Murrow Award for best broadcast.

Mr. Berman started at ABC News as a desk assistant in 1995, working the overnight shift.
A native of Carlisle, Massachusetts, he graduated from Harvard University, where he was president of Hasty Pudding Theatricals.
